KILLING THE BLUES

(Vintage 1800's Jacket Top, Vintage Trousers, Vintage Suspenders, hat & Necklace, Steve Madden Heels, Hue Stockings).

Today I woke up, took Waylon to the dog park and set out on my errands to pick up some photography tools. I wound up at Calumet and bought some gel filter papers, gel clip ons, and some reflectors. I was really excited to get home and try them all out! I re-arranged my whole living room to make a background set, and spent what felt like forever, trying to get the lighting right. I used some gels on the lights and tried really hard to get a dark mood going on in the photo. The soundtrack for the shoot was Robert Plant and Allison Kraus, and the song for the photos that best describes what I was going for was: Killing The Blues, which is my favorite song on that album.
After I got the shots that I wanted, I changed into some comfrtable clothes to begin editing. I wore my vintage 1930's/40's slip that my mom just bought me, and this black velvet robe jacket and then I decided to try a few shots in that outfit as well. Then Waylon came over for a snuggle and I snapped that too, haha!
I am having a lot of fun learning, and all of the comments on here, lookbook and Chictopia are sooooo helpful! I am going to love shooting models, and I wish I was already at that point, but I know I have a ways to go. Let me know what you all think of these pictures, if you get a chance. I was going to backlight the deer taxidermy but then I thought it would be nice to have the edges darker, did I get this effect right? If someone has a better suggestion, let me know! It was tricky.
(p.s. I hope the taxidermy doesn't offend anyone. I am a vegetarian and have been for many years, and no one in my family killed these deer... my husband just has these on our walls, he's really into old westerns and dark Victorian type things).

The first picture is really gorgeous and your outfit is just amazing. That top is soo beautiful and so is the robe you are wearing. You have inspired me to rearrange my living room and test out some lighting techniques!

Absolutely stunning shots, the mood, the styling, the setting - all perfection.
I love the outfits, set and lighting! I think you're really getting the hang of this. I think the darker edges were a good call too. Thank god for Calumet, I love those guys.
